The piece

Natural Travertine · Walnut Canopy · 1.7 m Drop

A narrow column of travertine, sixty-five millimetres across and one hundred and eighty-five tall, capped in walnut and hung on a 1.7 metre cord from a small walnut canopy. It comes turned round or cut square, and the two read quite differently: the round one is softer and disappears into a room, the square one holds an edge and lines up with cabinetry and joinery.

The bore is open at the bottom and the light drops in a narrow column, so this is a task pendant rather than a room light. It belongs over a counter, in a row above an island, or singly beside a bed where a lamp would take up the nightstand. At 65 mm wide it is small enough to hang three or four in a row without the ceiling getting busy.

Natural Stone · No Two Alike

Cut from solid natural travertine, not stone-effect resin or printed composite. Colour runs from cream to warm sand, the pore structure differs on every piece, and the open pits are a characteristic of the material rather than a defect. Ordering a row is the one case where this matters, so we batch them.

Finish

Travertine / Walnut

Cream stone with a walnut cap and canopy.

Dimensions

Round

D 65 × H 185 mm

∅ 2.6″ × H 7.3″

Square

W 65 × L 65 × H 185 mm

W 2.6″ × L 2.6″ × H 7.3″

Both shapes share the same height, the same walnut canopy at 100 mm across, and the same 1700 mm cord. Choose Round where the pendant should soften a space, and Square where it needs to line up with joinery, tile or a run of cabinets.

Installation

  • Hardwired ceiling installation. A licensed electrician is recommended.
  • The 100 mm walnut canopy covers a standard ceiling box. No recess or housing needed.
  • The cord ships at 1700 mm and is shortened at the canopy end during installation. Decide the drop before your electrician starts.
  • Over an island or counter, hang so the bottom of the stone sits 750 to 900 mm above the work surface.
  • In a row, space pendants 600 to 750 mm apart on centre and keep the end ones at least 300 mm in from the ends of the island.
  • Travertine is heavy for its size. Fix to a proper ceiling box or a noggin, not to plasterboard alone.
  • Clean with a dry or barely damp cloth. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, they will etch the surface.
  • Indoor use only. Do not install in a bathroom zone exposed to direct water or steam.
  • Do not disassemble the fixture. If issues arise, contact us.

FAQ

Should I choose the round or the square pendant? +

Round if the pendant should sit quietly in the room, square if it needs to relate to something built. The round column has no orientation, so it forgives a hanging point that is slightly off, and it reads softer against plaster and curved surfaces. The square column has four faces and a visible edge, which looks deliberate above straight cabinetry, subway tile or a rectangular island, but it does need to be hung square to the run or the misalignment shows.

Will my pendant look like the photos? +

Close, but not identical. Travertine is quarried stone, so colour runs from cream to warm sand and the pit pattern is different on every column. This matters most in a row: order all of them in one go and we will pull from the same batch so they sit close in tone.

Can the cord be shortened? +

Yes. It ships at 1700 mm and is shortened at the canopy during installation, which is standard for a corded pendant. Work out your drop first, since the cord cannot be lengthened afterwards.

How many do I need over a kitchen island? +

For a typical 1800 to 2400 mm island, three of these spaced 600 to 750 mm apart on centre. They are only 65 mm across, so they read as a rhythm rather than as three large objects, and three is usually better than two at this scale. Hang the bottom of the stone 750 to 900 mm above the counter.

What bulb does it take? +

We are confirming the exact base and wattage with the maker, and this page will be updated. Use a warm white lamp around 2700K when you fit it, since a cool white one turns the cream stone grey.

How do I clean the stone? +

A dry microfibre cloth for dust, and a barely damp cloth for anything stubborn. Do not use vinegar, citrus cleaners, bleach or anything abrasive. Travertine is a calcium carbonate stone and acidic cleaners will etch a dull patch into the surface that cannot be polished out. Over a hob, wipe grease off sooner rather than later.

Care & delivery

Looking after it

Dust with a soft dry cloth. Stone, plated and painted finishes dislike solvents and abrasives, so keep both away from them; glass takes a lint-free cloth and a little glass cleaner. Solid brass is left unlacquered on most pieces and will warm and darken with handling, which is the material behaving as it should rather than a fault. Switch a fixture off and let it cool before cleaning it.

Who makes it

This piece is manufactured for Elio Marchetti by Radilum, our production partner for the collection.

We are a lighting house rather than a factory. We select the pieces, specify the finishes and the stone, and hold the relationship with the maker, and we would rather tell you that plainly than leave it unsaid. Questions about the manufacture of a specific fixture are welcome and we will answer them.

Delivery

Allow 28 to 43 business days from order to arrival, roughly six to nine weeks. Most of the collection is made to order, so that time covers the piece being built in the finish and size you chose, checked, packed and shipped. The same window applies wherever you are.

Shipping is free to Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, with no minimum order.

Returns

You have ten days from receiving a piece to have it on its way back to us, under way inside those ten days rather than simply flagged with us on the tenth. Return postage on a change of mind is yours, there is no restocking fee, and the outcome is a refund to your original payment method rather than store credit. Made to order pieces return on the same terms as stock. Contact us before sending anything back.

Damaged or faulty on arrival

Separate from an ordinary return, and a longer window: twenty days from receipt to report it. Tell us before you send anything, keep the packaging until we have answered, and photographs of both the fault and the box help. Where a piece is faulty, damaged in transit or not what you ordered, we cover the return postage.

Installation

Any hardwired fixture should go in with a licensed electrician. Where a piece has particular requirements, a sloped ceiling, a chain that can be shortened, a specific socket, they are listed further up this page.
